These wild cats mark their home ranges, and males’ territories are much larger than females’. Very often the size of the territory depends on the food supply. Generally, they are solitary animals, but sometimes they travel in groups. These groups may probably consist of a mother with sub-adult children. Sometimes they join efforts in hunting, especially in regions where food is scarce. They can also come together to share a large kill. But this is quite infrequent, and they usually avoid direct contact with each other. They prefer not to encounter humans, but old or disabled species may undertake attacks against people.

The gestation period of females lasts 3.5 months. The majority of cubs are born between February and May. Tigress usually gives birth to 1-4 cubs. The cubs’ weight is up to 3 pounds. They are born stripped and blind, and open their eyes in 15-16 days after the birth. By age of 8-6 weeks they start eating meat and may follow their mother on hunting trips. By age of 6 months old they start hunting, and become totally independent at 1.5 years old. These animals reach puberty by age of 3-4 years; females mature earlier than males.
