The hallmark of the breed is its striped coat with a unique pattern. No two animals are alike; each pattern is individual. The most common color variety is orange with black, brown or gray stripes and white belly. There are also white, red, black and stripeless individuals. White animals are famous for their extraordinary appearance and attract lots of visitors. They are not albinos, because they have dark stripes and blue eyes indicating the presence of melanin in their bodies. Unfortunately, these unusual animals are susceptible to hereditary diseases and are absolutely unaccustomed to wild life.

Bengal Tiger Photos -
kitten, catteries
These animals are very rare in the wild and can be found mostly in sanctuaries of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Burma. The world population of the species is estimated at about 3000 individuals. These animals are endangered and protected by the law. They have been literally exterminated by poachers over the past century, and may disappear by the middle of the 20th century. While governments accept laws to protect these animals, wildlife departments are still too underfunded to counteract poachers and corrupt officials.
